Contest Info & Rules

The so-called "stimulus" increased your portion of the national debt by $9,400. We'll give you a chance to win some of it back.

Despite overwhelming public opposition, the so-called "stimulus" was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama. As a result, your portion of the national debt increased by $9,400. Congress created more than 30 new federal programs and spent lavishly on non-stimulative projects, including $650 million alone on digital television converter box subsidies. This takes money out the pockets of regular Americans to pay for more wasteful spending.

Speak Up. Make a Difference. Win $500.

While Washington spends record amounts on wasteful projects, such as golf carts and bridges to nowhere, we want to make sure the voices of average Americans are heard.

We are now running four contests: Video Testimonials, Write a Letter, Give It a Name, and Spread the Word.

Video Testimonials

Want to stimulate your own economy? Tell the world what you think by submitting a video testimonial. Use humor or emotion to dramatize your point, and help frame this debate in personal terms. The top 5 submissions will each receive a prize in the amount of $500.

Contest Rules

Testimonials must focus on the specific question: What's your biggest frustration about the government's appetite for more spending in the midst of the tough economic climate?

Testimonial videos should be no longer than one minute.

Videos must be submitted on the YouTube Group site (http://www.youtube.com/group/StopSpending) by 11:59 PM EST on April 30, 2009. Write a Letter

The massive debt being accumulated now will have to be paid by future generations, whether that be a son who does not yet exist, or a daughter too young to know what an economy is. So, write that person a letter—one not to be opened for 30 years—explaining how you feel about the burden they have to bear. The top 5 submissions will each receive a prize in the amount of $250.

Contest Rules

Submissions must focus on the specific prompt: Explain how you feel about the debt via a letter that your child, grandchild, or great-grandchild will open 30 years from now?

Letters should be no longer than 300 words.

Letters must be submitted by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it by 11:59 PM EST on April 30, 2009. Give It a Name

Sometimes a few words can say what a thousand cannot. It is certainly no easy task to capture a feeling about the $10 trillion dollar debt in just a few words, but this is why we need your help. A motto, brand, or tagline-whatever you want to call it-we need something short and quick that resonates strongly with people. There is no specific format we are looking for, so be creative and be original. The single best idea - as voted on by visitors to this website - will receive $250 and be the basis for a new video.

Contest Rules
